UHSVU’s most successful coach Brendan Payne stands down
The UHSVU committee wishes to thank Brendan Payne for his outstanding commitment and the results he achieved, as Senior Mens coach, over his 6 year coaching period. Brendan joined Uni High in 2016 when our Men’s Team were in Division 3 and had been for the past 9 years. He quickly implemented his training and match day style which resulted in immediate club improvement with finals in 2016.
One of Brendan’s key non-match day qualities, that makes him so valuable, is recruitment. He hunts down any lead that comes his way. With a new look team in 2017 the Division 3 premiership was won under Brendan’s guidance.
2017 Division 3 Grand Final
Further success in 2018 with the minor premiership (17-1) and the Division 2 flag.
2018 Division 2 Grand Final
Again promotion in 2019, narrowly finishing runners up in Division 1 and gaining promotion through a thrilling after the siren win in the preliminary final.
2019 Division 1 Preliminary Final
For the first time in 40 years Premier C was the playing arena in 2021 for UHSVU.
Brendan’s time in charge resulted in back to back senior premierships which is the only time this has occurred in the club’s history which began in 1932. He finished with an incredible 64/26 Win/Loss record. Without doubt attention and planning to opposition players was a key attribute in that success. Brendan also was very active off the field, willing to assist in Bunnings BBQs and other functions.
The entire club wholeheartedly thank Brendan and his son Baxter for their outstanding contributions to UHSVU. You are welcome at any time.
That club would like to advise the VAFA community that we are actively seeking playing/non playing coaches for men’s/women’s seniors and reserves along with our thirds men’s team centrally positioned in Parkville. To apply please click here.
