The Women’s Seniors went 4-1 with another win, this week it was over bottom placed Richmond Central at the zoo. A 7 goal to 1 first half avalanche set up the win for the Vulture women, who were able to hold on comfortably in the 2nd half adding 1 more goal while keeping RC goal-less. The goal kicking was shared around this week with 6 different goal kickers notching their name in the record.

Men’s Seniors

Mazenod 25.13.163 – UHS-VU 5.12.42

Goal Kickers: Ezza Ramsey 2, Fraser Campbell, Noah Seiderman, Patrick Brookes

Written by Todd Cracknell

A sorry day for the senior side as we packed our bags and drove the quick way home to see Mum after yet another painful loss. There were some hopeful takeaways as our younger players displayed resilience and determination to get better each minute of the game: Fraser Campbell, Fergus O’Neil, Matthew Dimmattina, Ayui Makieng, Noah Seiderman and first gamers, Jack Walter and Kaidin Jackson. James McGee once agan impressed with his last line of defence marks. James Gilifan and Benjamin Dimattina didn’t let up all day. Ethan Clarke and Patrick Brookes both brought their class and thoughtful use of the football. Esubalew Ramsey provided much spark around the contest and kicked two goals late in the game to show us that our captain never gives up, even when the rains hit and we’re down by 20 goals.

We had some competitive patches, namely the second quarter. But too often we let them spread from contests and score easily without a concerted team effort to shift or slow down their momentum. As the saying goes, “a week is a long time in footy”, think, reflect and plan for each week and bring our best so we can break the drought.

A massive thank you to all our volunteers and supporters who made the extra effort to come down. Thank you to all our Mums too, Happy Mothers Day!

We host Old Ivanhoe Grammarians this weekend at the Vultures Nest. Come down and see us get our first win!

Women’s Reserves

UHS-W 2.4.16 – Richmond Central 3.6.24

Goal Kickers: Laura Zanin, Keryn Walters

Written by Lizzie Vairo

In a slow start to the day, the Women’s Reserves went scoreless in the first quarter against Richmond Central.

They put the burners on in the second quarter, and first gamer but long time Vulture Keryn Walters snagged our first goal for the day. Great defensive pressure and some massive tackles from Mills gave first gamer Tilly and second gamer Belle an opportunity to show off their huge kicks. We finished the quarter down 8-19.

Our backline kept Richmond goalless in the third quarter, with Kim Crabtree making sure every attempt was stopped at the goal line. Meanwhile, in the forward line, a sneaky handball from Niamh during a free kick in front of goals saw Laura snag our second goal for the day. We saw some fantastic legs by Amy, despite heavy contact by Richmond once they clued onto her skill. I’m thinking of buying her a helmet for her birthday.

A goalless last quarter for both teams left us down 16-24 when the siren blew, but the team, captained by Bella Cumberlidge-Lynch, remained a positive, class act in the face of defeat. The last couple of weekends have been a hard slog through the mud for these women, but they’ve kept their heads up and remain hopeful for a win next Sunday against Mazenod.

Men’s Reserves

Mazenod 18.11.119 – UHS-VU 5.6.36

Goal Kickers: Nicholas Grapsas 2, Roy Girvan, St John Seeger-Snowden, Jacob Julian-Best

Editors Report

The UHS Men’s Reserves started competitively, a goal after the siren at quarter time from Jacob Julian-Best sent the crowd (who were mostly on the field of play by the time he kicked) wild and the boosted 2nds went into quarter time 2 goals to 4 down but well within striking distance.

A uncompromising second quarter saw the reserves concede 2 goals to 1, the 1 was slotted beautifully from a tight angle by skilful ruckman Grappa to rapturous applause.

The second half was a different story that saw Mazenod blow out the lead and restrict UHS’ chances. Despite this the reserves fought it out and managed to kick 2 more goals in the last quarter.

A big week on the track and the return of some big names will see the reserves going all out against Old Ivanhoe Grammarians this week at home.

Thirds

Chadstone 16.12.108 – UHS-VU 9.5.59

Goal Kickers: Luke Bell 4, Marcus Walsh 2, Thomas Booth, Rayan Hajj, Indiana Florent-Saill

Editors Report

Boosted this week by some old UHS names in Bell, Walsh, Bolitho and Booth and some new names in Cumberlidge, Deppler and Walmsley the Thirds went out to the fashion capital in search of win against the VAFA’s most stylish team Chadstone AFC.

Unfortunately they were unable to come away with the four points, despite the efforts of Three Crowns employee of the year Luke Bell, who kicked 4, and the successful return of Marcus Walsh, who gave a play by play of his 2 goal performance to anyone who would listen at the aforementioned pub on Saturday night.

The post game shopping trip, should give the now sharp looking Thirds a bounce this week when they face St Mary’s Salesian at home.
